CL 09, M4: C: CC v. Ota: Skipper Puttick Scores Maiden Century as Cobras qualify for Next Stage!

A wonderful firing unbeaten century by Cape Cobras skipper Puttick gave them the birth to the next stage. Cobras have become the first team to qualify for the league stage.

In their match against Otago, put into bat, Cobras put a highest total of the tournament in the board--193 losing 4 wickets. Gibbs once again failed with the bat as he was caught by de Boorder off Mascarenhas for 1. Davids also followed him with scoreboard reading 38 in 5.1 overs.

Skipper Puttick and Duminy added 95 for the third wicket in 62 balls which boosted the score of Cobras. Skipper Puttick was excellent to watch as he smashed 12 fours and 3 sixes. His century came in 60 balls while his first 50 in 37 balls.

Duminy scored 32 in 25 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. It was Ontong, who set the pace for Cobras innings. He hit two sixes in McSkimming's over. He also hit Butler for a four and a six in the last two balls of the innings. He remained unbeaten on 39 in just 14 balls which had 2 fours and 4 sixes.

Chasing 194, the New Zealand's Otago had an average start. Brendon McCullum scored 21 in 17 balls with 3 fours. He was run out when coming back for the 2nd run. This was the turning point as he was going well. Earlier, Redmond was the first to go caught for 14.

Only the McCullum brothers scored beyond 20. Nathan scored 38 in 21 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. He was the only batsman to hit a six in this innings.

Kleinveldt picked 3 of the Otago wickets in his 3 overs giving away 24 runs.

Otago has become the first team to get all out in less than 20 overs. With this victory, Cape Cobras has qualified for the league stage winning both their matches.

Otago and Royal Challengers match on October 12 will be a do or die for both the teams. The winner will move to the next stage.
