Deciding to bat, RC batsmen were aggressive in their approach. Kallis and Utthappa built a 75-run partnership for the 1st wicket in 9.5 overs. They Butler was costly with 42 runs in his 3.3 overs. No bowler was spared in the attack. Wagner was the economic bowler for Otago ending with 4-0-27-1.
Kallis carried his bat through the innings with 73 in 59 balls which had 4 fours and 2 sixes. Uthappa made 42 in 31 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. This pair was nice to watch as they played superb shots taking calculated risks. This being a crucial match, RC has to win, else they will be knocked out.
Dravid and Taylor also made useful contribution and maintained the momentum creatd by the openers. Dravid made 32 in 19 balls and Taylor made the same in just 11 balls with 3 sixes and 2 fours.
Chasing 189 is not an easy task under the lights. Though the batting line up was good, none of them shined. Skipper Cumming top scored with 20 and was the only batsmen to score a six.
Brendon McCullum scored 5, Redmond 11, and Rutherford 14. All these batsmen were dismissed by Kallis giving Bangalore team the much important break through.
Otago lost the three wickets with just 32 on the board. From that, they never bounced back and lost the match by 80 runs.
Otago is the only team to have lost all the 10 wickets in both of their matches. With this win, Royal Challengers escaped the threat of getting eliminated and qualified for the next round.
